We invite authors to submit book-length poetry manuscripts between November 1, 2015 and February 1, 2016. All manuscripts will be read blind, and typically one or two manuscripts selected for publication. It is possible no manuscript will be chosen in any given year. The winner/s will be announced at the Press’s website during summer 2016. Selected manuscripts will be scheduled for publication in Spring 2018.
Please note: Sixteen Rivers Press is a nonprofit, shared-work poetry collective. Authors must live in Northern California and become members of the collective with a three-year commitment, devoting an average of eight hours per month. Authors have the final decision on the design and contents of their book. All profits from sales go toward publication of the next year’s books. Authors’ books will be published during the second year of their commitment. For details, please see our FAQ page.
Online Submissions: Send an e-mail to email@example.com with your name, address, phone number, and the name of your manuscript. Attach a PDF of your manuscript to the e-mail. In the body of the e-mail, please include a personal statement (350 to 500 words) about why you want to work in a publishing collective, including any special experience or skills you might contribute. The manuscript must be e-mailed no later than February 1, 2016.
All manuscripts will be read anonymously. Please do not include your name anywhere in your manuscript, as it is important that your manuscript be a blind submission. The manuscript must be single-spaced and between 60 and 80 pages. Manuscripts must be previously unpublished. The manuscript should include a title page without the author’s name and address, a table of contents, and an acknowledgments page listing previous publications of the poems.
Mail Submissions: Guidelines are the same for mail submissions. Send one copy of your manuscript postmarked no later than February 1, 2016. Include a one-page personal statement as described above. A title page with your name and address, phone number, and e-mail address should be clipped to the personal statement. There is no reading fee.
Clip with a butterfly clip. Do not use folders or binding. Send the manuscript in a padded mailer, not a box. Manuscripts cannot be returned. If you would like verification of receipt, please clip a stamped, self-addressed postcard to the statement. The mailing address is Sixteen Rivers Press, P.O. Box 640663, San Francisco, CA 94164-0663.
